QPQ Chemical Polishing:  FerriLOK PROCESS

Atlantic Specialty Chemicals has developed the formulations and process behind FerriLOK™. FerriLOK™ was specifically formulated to provide highly effective chemical polishing and conversion of excess oxides and unwanted salts and particles of a post-quench QPQ ferrous metal and most stainless steel surfaces. The FerriLOK™ Process also improves part appearance and surface smoothness with a deeper and more uniform black color. Atlantic FerriLOK™ is formulated to decrease or eliminate manual polishing and sand/bead blasting of QPQ processed parts, reducing total QPQ process time by up to and in many cases over 50% and total labor cost by up to and in many cases over 80%.

FerriLOK 3535™: Proprietary Chemical Polishing Compound for Steel

Atlantic FerriLOK™ 3535 is a proprietary blend of liquid chemical polishing compounds. Atlantic FerriLOK™3535 was specifically formulated to provide highly effective chemical polishing, conversion, and removal of excess oxides and unwanted salts and particles from post-quench QPQ ferrous metal and most stainless steel surfaces. The FerriLOK™ Process also improves part appearance and surface smoothness with a deeper and more uniform black color. Atlantic FerriLOK™ 3535 is formulated to decrease or eliminate manual polishing and sand/bead blasting of QPQ processed parts, reducing total QPQ process time by up to and in many cases over 50% and total labor cost by up to and in many cases over 80%. Rejects due to salt contamination and/or blast media contamination have seen a reduction of over 95% of current levels, in most cases, when properly applied.

FerriLOK 5050™: Activation Oil and Grain Sealer

Atlantic FerriLOK™ 5050 was developed to seal the surface grain and halt the oxidation of steels after QPC Quench as Step 2 of a three-step corrosion prevention process. After Atlantic FerriLOK™ 3535 application and rinse, Atlantic FerriLOK™ 5050 would be applied to dramatically increase corrosion protection and salt spray results on ferrous alloys. Due to the unique chemical compounds in the formula, Atlantic FerriLOK™ 5050 will impart a micro-thin film that bonds to the metals surface making ferrous alloys unable to except further oxygen, will seal the metal grain, and will stop corrosion from beginning. Residues of Atlantic FerriLOK™ 5050 are compatible with most conventional lubricants and process fluids such as transmission fluids and glycol ethers. Atlantic FerriLOK™ 5050 may be applied in a dip system (optimal) or once-thru spraying (acceptable).

FerriLOK 8585™: Chemical Oxide Seal and Long-Term Corrosion Inhibitor for QPQ and Ferritic Nitrocarburized Treated Ferrous Metal Surfaces

Atlantic FerriLOK™ 8585 is a specialty oxide preventative developed to dramatically improve salt spray and humidity resistance on QPQ treated ferrous substrates. Atlantic FerriLOK™ 8585 is a unique iron oxide inhibitor based on a silicone-free inorganic-organic water proofing complex that is highly polar and forms an excellent hydrophobic bond to QPQ and Ferritic Nitrocarburized ferrous surfaces. This product will provide additional lubricity to phosphated surfaces. Atlantic FerriLOK™ 8585 can be used for long-term indoor and short term covered outdoor storage applications with salt spray results approaching and often exceeding 600-hours on QPQ treated parts. Atlantic FerriLOK™ 8585 seals the coating pores and deposits a thin, transparent film that will not interfere with machined tolerances and has low moisture transmission, even when in contact with water and salt solutions. This pliable film will not crack or age harden. Atlantic FerriLOK™ 8585 has a low viscosity, which provides excellent penetration and drainage. Also meets the requirements for MIL-PRF-16173E. Atlantic FerriLOK™ 8585 is the final chemical step in the Atlantic FerriLOK™ process.
